Google Business Profile

How to create a free website using Google My Business and optimize it for SEO and mobile responsiveness?

Google retired the free Business Profile website builder in 2024. Here is what to use instead.

Google no longer offers free websites through Business Profiles. Google shut down its Business Profile “Website Builder” in 2024: the sites (on business.site addresses) were switched off in March 2024, redirected to the Business Profile for a few months, and then removed. So you can no longer build or keep a free website this way.

You still need a website, so here is what to do instead.

Use a real website builder

Google itself pointed people to options like Wix, WordPress, Squarespace, and Shopify. They give you your own domain, full control over design, and features a Business Profile site never had. Pick one, choose a template, add your business information and photos, and publish.

Whichever you choose, keep it fast and mobile-friendly, since Google uses page speed and mobile usability as ranking factors: compress images, keep the layout simple, and test it on a phone.

Point your Business Profile at your new site

Once your site is live, add its URL to your profile so searchers reach it. Here is how to add your website to your Google Business Profile.

Keep your Business Profile complete

Your Business Profile is still where most local customers find you on Search and Maps, so fill in your info, hours, photos, and services, and keep your name, address, and phone number consistent everywhere they appear.

If you manage several locations, Synup’s locator and landing pages build SEO-friendly local pages for every location, a stronger option than a single free site.

Put these steps on autopilot

Synup verifies, syncs, and monitors every listing your locations own, so nobody has to work the checklist by hand.
